Salt of the Earth is an award-winning, independent, UK based, family run business that has been designing and manufacturing natural, ethical and environmentally friendly deodorants since 1993. Their deodorants are all vegan and cruelty-free. Their factory is powered by electricity from 100% renewable sources including wind, solar and hydro.
Ingredients
All Salt of the Earth ingredients are 100% natural, derived from plants and naturally occurring minerals. Fragrances are sourced from essential oils and botanical extracts. Salt of the Earth are certified by COSMOS Natural, giving you the confidence that their ingredients meet rigorous organic and natural standards.
Packaging
Salt of the Earth deodorants come in a range of packaging so that you can choose the option that suits you best. Many are refillable and, since they launched in 2013, the equivalent of half a million individual plastic bottles have been saved from landfill.
Their deodorant sprays are made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and 50% sugarcane-based biopolymer making them more environmentally friendly than traditional plastics. The plastic free refills are made of FSC cardboard and greaseproof paper with a grass paper label. The plastic deodorant sticks are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic and can be refilled. A 525ml refill bottle allows you to refill a 75ml roll-on bottle up to 7 times, saving 65% plastic compared with buying a new bottle each time.
Ecologi
In 2020, Salt of the Earth partnered with Ecologi, an organisation that funds climate projects across the world. This partnership enables the planting of trees to offset carbon production and reduce the environmental impact of manufacture and production. In 3 years, they have planted almost 12,000 trees, offset nearly 400 tonnes of CO2 and helped to fund 43 projects across the world.

Deodorant v Antiperspirant
Deodorant works differently to antiperspirant. Deodorant tackles the bacteria that breaks down the sweat and causes odour but doesn’t stop you from sweating. Antiperspirant on the other hand, blocks your pores preventing sweat from escaping and reacting with the bacteria. When switching from a traditional, aluminium based deodorant to a natural one, your body may go through a detox period as your pores gradually lose the build-up of aluminium. This can cause some additional sweating and odour which may lead you to think that the natural deodorant isn’t effective.
